Coyotes Partying across the Ditch

Last night something unusual was going on in Coyote Land (the vacant 60-acre parcel behind our house and across the ditch) as the coyotes were howling and yipping off and on from sundown to daybreak.  From the sounds of it, there were several adults and lots of teenaged pups.

These critters usually vocalize only when the local train whistles at crossings and police cars, fire trucks and ambulances run their sirens.

Maybe the coyotes were meeting up with cousins from nearby creeks, parks, ranch land or open space.  Or perhaps they were visiting from Lookout Mountain or the foothills.

Every once in a while, I get the urge.
